March Newsletter

Administrator Message

Happy March! The weather, as of late, has certainly been feeling like spring which brings a renewed sense of excitement and energy to our learning. As we enter in Term 2, our learning focus will remain on foundational language skills for reading and fundamentals in math. Our teachers have been engaged in professional development throughout the month of February and are eager to apply their learning in the classrooms supporting students develop key skills.

A big thank you again goes out to our Parent Council volunteers. They are key to ensuring our hot lunches and nutrition program operate smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering or becoming a member of the Parent Council,  please contact the office.

A huge congratulations to our February Assembly Award Winners: Get up and Go  “Getting started is half the battle!”

Important Updates

Electronic Communication

SeeSaw is a great electronic communication tool that allows for visual and text communication and allows families to stay informed of events and learning in the classroom. For urgent or time sensitive messages, please phone the school office rather than messaging via SeeSaw. The classroom is a busy place and it would be easy to miss a critical message. Our Secretary, Ms. Phillips, would be happy to take your call instead. If a teacher is away from school for a day, they will send a message via SeeSaw. On those days, please either hold your questions until the teacher returns or call the school office for immediate assistance.

Communication Protocols

Education is a shared experience involving the home and the school and it can be strengthened by open communications between the two. Follow these steps if you have a concerns about your child’s education:

First: Contact the classroom teacher and discuss the situation.

Then – if the situation has not been resolved: contact the principal or vice-principal and request help in dealing with the matter.

Then – if necessary: contact the superintendent of your child’s school. Call 1-888-526-5552 and ask for the name of the superintendent for your child’s school.

Parking Lot Pickup/Drop Off

Pickup/Drop off are the busiest times of the day in our Parking Lot. We are committed to keeping everyone safe from moving vehicles but need your help. Please park your vehicle and walk your child(ren) to/from the gate. If you park close to the gate, you may need to wait until all children are dismissed so moving vehicles and walkers are not sharing the same space. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Kindergarten Registration is Open

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) has opened registration for students starting Kindergarten in September 2024. TLDSB offers both junior and senior Kindergarten programs, where our youngest students develop a strong foundation for learning in all areas. At this stage, students grow through play-based learning and small group instruction with caring educators. Students will learn about language and math, engage in healthy physical activities and the arts, and develop socially and emotionally through interaction with their peers and educators who guide them.

Parents/guardians of children who are turning four in 2024 are encouraged to visit the Kindergarten Registration page on tldsb.ca to register their child(ren) and learn more about the programs. To find out which elementary school your child(ren) will attend based on the home address, use the School Locator. All contact information for our elementary schools can be found on the Board Directory.

September may seem far away, but it’s important for TLDSB to know how many students are enrolled so that staffing and spaces for the upcoming school year can be made. TLDSB asks all parents/guardians to register their child(ren) by March 31.

Attendance

School attendance is important for future success. Our students are working hard in their classrooms every day learning new skills. If your child is going to be away, please call the safe arrival number to let the office know 705-799-5292.
